Microsoft Visual SourceSafe 2005

Microsoft Visual SourceSafe 2005 is a version control system for managing files and revisions in software and Web site development. It is most effective for small, geographically close teams who generally work on a high-speed, low-latency local area network (LAN) in a highly trusted environment.

Developers use Visual SourceSafe to check out a file, make changes, and check the file back in. Other developers typically are not able to make changes to a file while it is checked out. Visual SourceSafe maintains file change histories, audit trail logs, and disaster recovery for source code files and allows developers to roll back or undo any changes that later create problems.

Visual SourceSafe Explorer is a graphical interface similar to other Windows Explorer interfaces. Visual SourceSafe 2005 also contains Visual SourceSafe Administrator (for managing users and databases) and a command line utility.
